Carol September Newsletter

Happy September! I do love September, and after this really hot summer I think I will love it even more! It’s my birthday month and the very first of the ‘ber months. We have a lot going on here for the last 4 months of the year!

September marks the inaugural Second Tuesday Book Club. In this book club, we will read classics. I’ve already received so much positive feedback about this! The first book is one of my favorites, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and we will meet on September 10 at 4pm.

Our original Book Club is on the 3rd Tuesday, and the book for that is The Mayor of Maxwell Street by Avery Cunningham. This group will meet at 1pm on Tuesday, September 17.

The Blood Connection bus will be here on September 18 at 10 am. Please come out and give blood! Giving blood is healthy for you and can help save the lives of up to three people! Plus, there are snacks! Win-win!

Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates, contests, and other fun stuff. You can access that by going to Facebook, and then the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library Adult Page. I know that is a lot, and maybe soon we will have a link on our website. Meanwhile, do that!

We have received a lot of new donations, and also we have weeded out some good children’s books. Be sure to check out the pop-up book sale! This is a supplement to the Friends of the Library book sale, which is held in April. Books are $1 each, and there are also some that are free. And if you would like to join the Friends, you can do that for just $10 a year! There are so many great things the Friends do, like the book sale, sponsoring the Summer Reading Programs for children and adults, and helping to host authors and other programs for the library. So great. We really appreciate our Friends!

Since I am going on vacation this week, I am going to read Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (at Heather’s recommendation!). Just a little light reading…
“Having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card!”

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!  Y’all. I cannot stress enough how vital a library card is to everyday life! You can use our computers, read periodicals, listen to audiobooks, check out movies, make use of our experience passes, sign up to Libby so that you can read or listen online, research your genealogy, look through old yearbooks, play some board games, renew your SNAP benefits, looks for a job…whew! That’s a lot! All you have to do to get a card is bring a current ID and proof of address and we will handle the rest. Your account is good for two years, and it is free.

I am looking forward to seeing you all, make sure to tell me what you’re reading!

Happy September!
-Carol
