Carol October Newsletter

Hello Friends and Happy Fall!
As we enter into the autumn season (read: the season where everything gets busy!), be sure to remember the wonderful resources you can find here at your library. Now that children are back in school, it’s a great time to take advantage of the Zoo Pass, as well as the State Park Pass. Both of these are part of our “Experience Passes” and they are a great deal.

September is Library Card Sign Up Month but hey – if you missed that, you can sign up anytime! Just bring in your Georgia ID and a proof of address. It takes about 5 minutes, the card is good for two years, and gives you full rights and privileges to any GA PINES library. All for FREE!
Remember, we now have TWO book clubs! The First one, “2nd Tuesday Book Club” meets at 4pm, on October 8. We will be reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. I am really enjoying re-reading the classics!

The other book club meets on the 3rd Tuesday, October 15 at 1pm. This time, we will be reading The Shining by Stephen King. I have avoided reading anything that creepy for SOOOO long, but here we are! So far, it is creepy…perfect for Halloween!

We are starting a new activity, Scrapbooking With Penny. If you have something you are working on, bring it. If you haven’t started anything but always wanted to, come join us! I know it will be a good time! Scrapbooking with Penny is planned for 3:00PM on the 4th Friday of each month.
As I implied before, it’s spooky season! Make sure to come see us on Halloween! We will all be dressing up, and Kathy and I are going as the Grady Twins from The Shining. We will be the cutest!

Other than our two book club books, I am reading a YA book called the Insignificant Events in the Life of A Cactus by Dusti Bowling. It features a teen who was born with no arms who, after moving to the Arizona desert with her family, meets a little group of wonderful, misfit characters – an overweight teen, a guy with Tourette’s, an elderly ice cream shop employee with dementia, and an old, sick Llama. This book is a light little read with a cast of characters that make you look at people with a lot more empathy – which, after the Shining, is just what the Doctor ordered!

Please join us for a very informative Budgeting 101 seminar on Wednesday, October 23 from 4:00 to 5:00PM. This event, below, is presented by North Georgia Credit Union.

Hope to see you soon!
